Stoma Issues.Prolapse.

I have a loop Stoma and a hernia I. Have no problems taking care of it.Check up with my Stoma nurse and I asked her why it has changed size and was told it was a Prolapse ,Has anyone got the same I'm due to discuss having my Stoma reversed I know you can get my prolapse repaired but not if my Stoma is going to be reversed.

Hi Aldan,

I had a loop ileostomy for a year and had a reversal 4 months ago. I also had a good sized hernia which didn't cause me any problems. Early on my stoma became detached on one side and then healed up so was a bit wonky after that. I looked up prolapse at the time and it would seem that if it is a prolapse it will have pushed through quite a way. Is this what yours has done?

Has the stoma nurse seen it? They are the best judges and would refer back to the surgeon if they thought it was necessary. If so perhaps it will speed up your date for a reversal. Do you have a date for a reversal yet?

Not yet as it's still in it's early days..I have to see my surgeon in April to discuss having a reversal date. My Stoma nurse is great .It's just a bit sore round the edge.I'm going to get in touch with her .I'll let you know what. they say Thanks John

Just off the phone with my Stoma nurse and she is going to talk to my surgeon .I'm getting a hernia belt .That will take the strane away . Happy Days

Hi Aldan,

Just a point on the support belt. I had one from SupportX. It was good in as much as it gave me some confidence to do things but I also had the only real accidents that I had with the bag while wearing the belt. If your output is fairly thick I found that it didnt pass down the bag easily because of the pressure of the belt but came out at the side. Not pretty!. Just something to bear in mind, I just needed to check the bag more often. John
