Hi . I have a couple question. Which I am sure has been asked in the past. I have now been fighting cancer for r years . I have had 2 operations 2 radiotherapy treatments.9 chemotherapy treatments 1 trial treatment. My consultant has in formed me I have a 10.5 cm tumor in my kidney and a couple small ones in my liver. I was in formed that they can no longer operate on me , yet the tumour is not in the same place.I can not have radiotherapy yet the tumor is in a diffrent place. And I am being told soon I will not be able to receive any more chemotherapy. I have no other heath issues. I am physically fit and after each operation I was home within a week. The only issue I have is damage caused to me by the hospital leaving medical equipment inside me for over a year. Yes I can feel the pain from the cancer. So my belief is the doctors have given up ,and are just doing the least they have to with out actual looking at possible options.my question is what is left for me
Hi
Sorry to hear about your concerns regarding potential future treatment . I have copied in Bowel cancer U.K. s latest info on managing stage 4 disease , most of which you will be familiar with but might give you some information regarding chemo options .
Not sure about your cell information but have you investigated Immunotherapy to see if that’s an option ?
Some questions spring to mind ! Have you had a liver resection in the past or know which lobes / tumour sizes that are currently affected ? For me I like to know that information then look at criteria for resection , radio frequency ablation etc and see if there is a potential option from an informed position .
The other aspect I like to know , who is making the decisions at the MDT meeting . Was a urologist present and able to give a specialist opinion on your kidney and any potential surgical options ? Is it a centre of clinical excellence that has said there is no further treatment options for your liver ? You are entitled to a second opinion and it might be worthwhile seeking some more information. Often it can be done by scan review if you have recent ones . Or if you are thinking chemotherapy options by a fresh set of eyes from another oncologist. All of this may in fact have been covered but it’s worth while making sure if you are concerned . It also gives you some inroads to open the dialogue with your team as it is a hard one to suggest you might want another set of eyes on it . But it sometimes can throw up other options .
You also might like to link up with bowel cancer U.K. they have umbrella support groups for stage 4 patients where they can share more information and get information on how others are managing their condition . They would point you in the right direction .
We have a helpline here 0808 808 0000. They may also be able to give you some guidance on how to move forward with your care .
Take care ,
Court
PS . Who would want me for a daughter ! If you click on my user name you can read my mum’s story . 11 1/2 years as a stage 4 patients and a couple of tricky junctions to negotiate along the way .

That is so disappointing to hear as there are some tricky choices as it is . My mum has had a brilliant oncologist for around eight years . She is fresh and engaged . However we have also navigated more choppy waters too and had some uncomfortable choices to make . But we found it beneficial to get all the information on the table directly from the surgeons etc then you get a better feel for what has potential.
I wish you the very best .
