A member of the team visited me yesterday to say I would need surgery as the polyp that was removed had cancer cells on the stalk end where they cut it off . So a big chunk of Sigmoid needs to come out . He said it wAs a Adenocarcinoma, he said he wouldnt know until after the surgery any further info . Is this correct ? I’ve had a CT today of my chest, abdomen and pelvis so we shall see what that shows . The MDT meeting is on Friday and he was unsure whether I would be on the list for this Friday as they needed the CT scan results . Whether it’s been found early enough I’m really not sure . My bowel motions chAnged over 2 years ago ( severe constipation) I’ve had various tests ranging from celiac, food intolerances, etc and endoscopy , and referred time dieticians. A had a stroke in 2019 which then became the priority- which then turned out not to be a stroke but a rare form of vascuilitis. So my bowel health kind of got put to the wayside .
Hi Takayasu, I know things might have changed greatly since my APR for rectal cancer in 2004. After surgery would show how many lymph nodes had been affected. I had one affected lymph node so needed the belt and braces chemo. I would have thought that all other staging would have been done prior to surgery?
Best wishes
Good afternoon all,
they will not know the staging until they remove the tumour.
stage 1 and 2 - no lymph nodes involved. The more the tumour has grown into the layers of the colon the higher the stage.
stage 3 - some lymph nodes involved
stage 4 - the cancer has spread outside of the colon to nearby organs. Usually the lung or liver.
The waiting for results is the worst part of cancer.
good luck - I am hoping it is stage 1 or 2 for you.

I’ve been discharged and thankfully it looks like the radiologist has reported . The discharge letter says no metatestes which I take to mean no spread to other organs ? The letter also describes the histology of the polyp removed as moderately differentiated. So fingers crossed I on today’s list at the MDT meeting
Yes I thought he might know more than was saying to be honest , my discharge letter from my admission does give a bit more of a clue in that it says histology of Polyp is moderately differentiated.... then goes on to say high dysplasia and low , When I queried staging he said we don’t tend to use that method here
