Hi,

My mum has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and we recently found out that it has spread to her spine and is now terminal.

Has anyone had or heated of any new treatments or trials for this type of cancer?

Thank you x

Hi Tiddles38, Welcome to the group- most of us on here have a similar diagnosis of breast cancer spread to the bone. There are lots of drugs and treatments that can be used. I’ve now been on treatment for a year with all stable. You can click on my name and read my profile. There are targeted drugs for secondary cancer now and these are showing to be effective and there are more drugs coming after each one if/when any stop working. Although a spread to the bone is classified as incurable, it is treatable and we very much hope that these drugs give us a long life and a good quality of life. If you have any questions feel free to ask. It’s a massive shock I know but these forums are here to help. My mum also had secondary cancer so I know how scary everything is. Take care! Jo xx

Hi Tiddles38. I can’t answer your question but just wanted to say I’m sorry you are experiencing this. My dad was diagnosed with secondary bone cancer last month and it has now also started to spread to his lung. Primary was bile ducts then liver. Just writing it down frightens the life out of me.
He had some radiation treatment and is hopefully starting chemo on Monday, has your mum been offered this? He is in a lot of pain in his hip and leg, it’s associated nerve pain from his spine (cancer is in 10 of his vertebrae) and the pain is stopping him from doing much which is in many ways worse than the cancer itself as we want him to be able to do the things he enjoys and at the moment he can’t. He is on a cocktail of pain relief but nothing seems to be stopping the pain enough.

I hope your mum gets a treatment plan she is happy with, I’d be interested to know what is put in place. Take care x
