Hello, I am 72 , widowed; I had breast cancer in 1999 and had a lumpectomy, thought I was clear, but in 2016 when my late husband was ill I developed bone cancer together with arthritis in my left hip with the result my left leg was shortened; have Osteoarthritis in my right knee, and lymphodoema in my right arm with limited mobility.
I am entirely on my own: no relatives, no family and sometimes living seems not worth the trouble, what with all the pain I get: I cannot walk or stand very much .
I do have friends in the church and I am brought to the local hospice every Monday which for me is my one day out.
I have no idea how the cancer started in my hip, but the pain is exacerbated with the arthritis. I wonder if anyone has this experience?
Hello , I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis and loneliness, I have wandered into this group as there seem to be a few posts without replies. I noticed that this is one of your early posts and you said you hadn’t much info on bone cancer. I am not sure if your cancer is still breast cancer though that has spread to the bone. I have Melanoma that had spread to my lymph glands and my ovary and where ever it spreads the treatment for a spread is specific to the original cancer, so I’m wondering if this is the case for you.
There is an ask an expert section on here where you can post questions for a medic to answer, I will put the link in for you to click on and post a question if you think that will be useful, or there is the Macmillan support line that you could ask questions to and they have some useful booklets that they might identify that you haven’t had and could possibly use. My hospital has a Macmillan booth right near the oncology ward where they have a stack of helpful literature as well.
The support line is 0808 808 0000 and is open every day 8am to 8pm.
The ask an expert link https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_experiences/ask_the_expert/ask_a_nurse/discussions the experts here have full time jobs but try and get back a reply within 2 working days.
i am glad you get out to church to meet people, at a friends church she runs a befriending service for people who feel they could do with more company to cheer themselves up, it might be worth asking when you next visit if your has something similar. There might be a local cancer support group that you might benefit from visiting this link https://www.macmillan.org.uk/in-your-area/choose-location.html is where you can put in your post code to find out.
I hope things improve for you, keep us posted as to anything that helps, as there might be someone reading this who is feeling the same as you are.
best wishes
Take care KT
