Hi guys, my cancer is treatable, for a little time, but I also have a few co-morbidities, so doubtful any treatment for my bone mets would be worth the side effects, "I would be happy to be proven wrong" my mets have been caught early, and I know side effects are unpredictable, but I would be grateful for any advice on delaying the pain and lessening it when it starts, I'm unable to have anaesthetic or pain relief stronger than paracetamol, Eddie.

  • Hi Eddie,

I needed some palliative radiotherapy to get my pain down to manageable levels but not sure if that is an option for you. My pain meds are Naproxen and paracetamol so again not sure if that’s an option. I also occasionally need some morphine. My secondary bone cancer is in my upper spine. I have a Densumab injection every six weeks to help maintain bone density and take a calcium/Vitamin D supplement for four weeks after each injection but other than that I haven’t received any active treatment for my mets since becoming Stage 4.

Hope you find something that helps.

    Kind regards.

    Tom

  • Hi Eddiel my secondary is the same as maninbath, mine was close to my spinal cord and was given 1 dose of radiotherapy which helped with the pain, I take paracetamol and 1 codeine tablet in the morning and before bed, not sure if you can take codeine but for the last 5 months my pain has been minimal I was diagnosed in June 2024. I am also on bone strengthening injections once a month and have had no side effect

i hope you can find something that helps with your pain

  • Hi Tom, thank you for replying, I have had radiotherapy April 2022, 73gy to the whole pelvic area, we were hoping for SBRT to target the ribs but a clear line to the cancer is not possible, I am on Alendronic acid and calcium for osteoporosis as I have multiple fracturs to spine, pelvis and sacrum due to RT, sadly I tried naproxen but ended up in A+E, "bad heart", my oncologist + cardiologist are working together on chemotherapy, 10 cycles of docetaxel, which doesn't appeal due to side effects, especially to my heart, and lutetium and radium I know little about. thanks again Tom, maybe see you again on the LWIC forum.

  • many thanks Whattodo, good to hear your managing your pain well, unfortunately no codeine for me, my "tumours" are L1 and T10, which I don't know if that is relevant or helpful and are the 14th and 15th places my cancer has spread too, unbelievably my latest scan showed NED on the first 13, bar 1 lymph node, pleased to hear your IV bisphosphonate's are side effect free, best wishes.
