Hi to everyone.

Has anyone had Zometa & do the pain side effects get easier?

My hubbys 2nd infusion was yesterday, though not as bad as the first infusion, still quite painful. Approx 6 hrs after started feeling chilly, flu like then the joint pain started. As been taking cocodamol & oramorph. Struggled to walk to bathroom due to knee joint pain, so we've had a bit of a tough night. But he says he doesnt feel as bad as the last infusion pain wise.

I just wonder does it get easier each time or is this the baseline?

He as 2 lower back bone mets from lung cancer. Radiothetapy as helped massively with the bone met pain, no oramorph & just 2 co codamol.

One major problem that neither oncologist/GP can explain is the leg/ankle swelling, takes furosemide diurectic, but not doing much. As anyone else had this problem & wondered if related to bone mets in spine?

Any input re zometa/leg swelling who can relate would be much appreciated.

Thanks

  • Hi

I'm sorry to read how much your husband is struggling on Zometa. I had it as an adjuvant therapy after I was diagnosed with breast cancer and have had an infusion every 6 months for the last 3 years.

I didn't suffer any side effects from it, so not much help but I've done a search in the group and found these previous posts for you to have a look through.

I can see that your husband's primary cancer is lung so you might also want to post this message in the lung cancer group.

  • Hi. Yes I posted in the lung cancer group after the first infusion, which were really bad pain side affects & cud just about walk. This time thankfully, not to bad, a bit fluy & some joint pain, but today we went out for lunch!! So his body might be adjusting to it, we see that as a result!

He as an ECHO on the heart & physio tomoz at the Marsden to try & get to bottom of swelling ankles. As thats causing the mobility problem. His appetites good, no nausea, just this odd thing with swelling. Hopefully get that sorted & he'll be better walking.

    Thanks for reply x

  • It's great to hear that you were able to get out for lunch today and I hope you and your husband enjoyed it.

    All the best for tomorrow

    ((hugs))
