Hi All

Does anyone have tips on dealing with night sweats? I’ve had them for 10 days post first cycle. I don’t get hot, just wake up around 3am and have to change clothes. Usually very cold and take ages to warm back up. Any ideas please?

  • Hi FiG welcome to the forum..It's bad enough that we have to have all the different treatments let alone all the side effects. I'm thinking things like lightweight bedding, windows open enough to let air in or a fan in the room..however, that's not gona help much by making you cold but maybe worth a try. I think our temperature regulators get involved with chemo as well. I wonder if it's worth having a chat with your chemo team as they may have some suggestions.

    I don't think there's anything preventative I can do from what I've learnt. I have found a few things that may be helpful to others;

    http://www.lavendertouch.co.uk/ do Bamboo PJs that are made for these symptoms. They are expensive, but Xmas is nigh! I'm waiting on them coming, but hopeful.

    I bought body-length washable mattress pads on amazon (they were half price black friday). I started using kiddy bed-wetting pads, but there is so much waste to dispose of. But if you don't have washing a drying facilities, these are an option as you can buy then in bulk quite cheaply. I get through two pads a night, but at least I don't have to change the bed every day. They do dry in a day.

    A hand towel on my pillow, also allows me to change in the night and get a dry pillow.

    I also keep a spare pad, pair of PJs, a nightcap and a throw (to warm me back up)next to the bed for easy change in the night.

    I did notice, one evening I had a small glass of wine and the sweats were much worse - could be coincidence.

    I hope this helps others.
