Hi all
So my husband has gone from tonsil cancer to it spreading into his spine and pelvic MSCC.
Sadly he was told last thursday he has 3 to 6 months to live. Which as u can imagine is hard to digest.
He has started 10 sessions of radiotherapy again today and will be starting immunetherapy in few weeks.
He is in horrendous pain, and today radiotherapy has crippled him and made him so poorly.
As anyone been in same boat. Is it worth having the treatment does it do anything if hes got 3 to 6 months. Hes confused and not knowing what to do for the best x
Hi Cazza2190,
I have secondary bone cancer in my upper spine and earlier in the year was in so much pain I wanted to self amputate my left arm, which was virtually useless. My oncologist arranged for five courses of RT to alleviate the pain. It worked but you do experience a pain flare before things start to get better. Also because my RT was targeted on the neck area of my spine I subsequently developed a really bad sore throat which made swallowing difficult but I was fully recovered within about 3 weeks of finishing treatment.
Managing pain is important to quality of life. My oncologist has never told me how long I have left, although my own research suggests it is probably around a year max, but being in bearable pain for as much of that as possible, so I can carry on making memories, is an on-going goal.
Whatever the decision you make together you have my kindest wishes.
