Clear Cell Chondrosarcoma

Hello, new to this site today. Have come on as I am struggling this week and am feeling very low.

On 28/7/26 I had an op at RNOH, called a distal femoral endoprosthetic replacement. Basically I had a sarcoma at the bottom of my right femur that was successfully removed and replaced with a metal hinge for a knee joint. I have been told that anything above a 90 degree bend of this joint is a bonus. As someone who was active (in my 40's), I am feeling very frustrated at my limited abilities. I am doing lots of physiotherapy, but if I overdo it, the knee becomes very swollen and painful. I can't drive, have been signed off work for several weeks and am going insane at home, not being able to do 'normal' things. I know I should be grateful that the cancer has not spread, and is all removed, but I just don't feel like the same person anymore.

I am struggling to feel optimistic about anything, as it is hard to make any plans without knowing how fit I will be, and am dreading the regular scans to see if the cancer has returned.

  • Hi Princess77, there’s nothing I can say that will really make a difference to you. Sending you a virtual hug.
I get so down and hopeless too. It can come over me like a wave totally out of the blue. Feeling guilt at not being happy despite gratitude can weigh me down too. I read positive affirmations on Pinterest! My friend gave me a jar of biblical quotes to dip into (I’m not religious) . They all help in someways as they take my mind away out of self destruct mode for a while.

Anyway, another hug (I wish my husband would put off classic smooth music. Danny boy is not what I want to hear ConfoundedConfoundedTired face!)

you are not alone, you are not wrong, you are not to blame.

    Sus

  • Thank you Sus xx

Did you have the same op? Recovery is a looooong rollercoaster of emotions.

  • Hi, no not the same op but I was a fit healthy 65 year old . I also care for my husband who has MS so I HAVE to be well! Stage 4 endometrial cancer, chemotherapy, radiotherapy. Now on immunotherapy. My immune system has attacked my bones and joints. Oh yes, happy to be alive and all that  ….. I was given 6months to a year in July, but only a wee bit of me exists.

Sick of the sound of myself at times. It’s only me who can change that. So on goes the lippy and mascara and to a certain extent, try to be me. Next scan 8/10. Terrified, worrying now won’t change anLaughinghing and will prolong the anxiety. Hard to have positive mental attitude at times. Will paint on the lips tomorrow LaughingClown

It’ll get better, I promise you xx

  • Goodness me Bellamay, what a trooper you are! I'm sure you look fabulous in your lippy. Sending hugs, and thank you for your kind words.
