Treatment of primary sarcoma in pelvis

New here and looking for someone with similar experience to what we are facing. Feeling very lost and have a very challenging and uncertain future Cry

My partner has been given a serious high grade cancer diagnosis of a primary bone sarcoma in the pelvis. No current strong evidence of the cancer spreading elsewhere.

Recommended treatment plan is a major and high risk operation to remove a large section of the pelvis, hopefully along with the cancer. But the operation risks are high including what feels like a high risk of death or other serious complications, and the potential impacts to quality of life and recovery are frightening.

Anyone been here?

Any good advice on the key points to consider when deciding if to go ahead with this operation or not? The given alternatives are to try chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy which may or may not help depending on the type of cancer (not currently known) or to do nothing and switch to palliative care.

Very very scared of losing my partner but don’t want to see them suffering more than they already are.

  • Hello

I am Brian, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community. I have just noticed your post has gone unanswered. I can't answer it myself as I have a different cancer, however by me replying, your post will be "bumped up" to the top of the page and I hope seen and answered by other members of the bone cancer group.

Having read your post a couple of times I am wondering if the treatment offered to your partner is quite rare and possibly no one on the group has had the same or similar treatment.

It may be an idea to pose your question to our nurses and here's the link you need

    Ask a Nurse

I wish you well moving forward and do hope you get some answers.

    Best wishes - Brian.
