I have had 9 doses of BCG so far; six more to go. After the 8th dose, I am having persistent symptoms of prostatitis with dysuria, urgency and frequency. In your experience, how long does this horrible side effect last?
Hi Madmax . Sorry to hear you are in a lot of discomfort with the BCG. Not had it myself but hopefully someone with experience will be along to help. Just a suggestion, have you been checked for any infection? Best wishes.
Hi, i have had my 15th dose in Feb and still in pain when urinating although not as bad as it was at the start of the year. Im having tabs for prostatitis but stopped because they are causing horrible side effects. Still needing to go to loo frequently during the day and worser at night even though having meds to relieve this as well. Very painful when going for a wee and difficulty weeing sometimes. It really has impacted on my life that i just dont bother going anywhere far and have to be sure there is a loo nearby. Went to see consultant urologist today who wants to pause bcg and do cystoscopy. Then i have to decide whether to continue treatment (supposed to be 27 doses in total!) or stop and risk cancer coming back. Not really sure what to do because im not keen on having my bladder taken out if it comes to that. Really hope your condition improves over time so keep your chin up, you are not alone. Regards.
Thank you BazL. I was at the end of my tether with the symptoms, when I realised I may be dehydrated because of the heat wave. So I upped my intake of lemon barley water yesterday to 2.5 litres and lo presto, the symptoms disappeared. Only downside of that was that I was up most of the night peeing away for England.
Thank you for your reply Madmax. I think you are right that increasing your fluid intake helps. I found that when i drink more water i am in lesser pain when weeing as the urine is less conentrated and yes only downside is more trips to the loo! Good luck with your recovery, in the meantime Come on England!
Morning Madmax,
I hope the prostatitis is easing off…Back in March of this year I had my BCG #16-#18.. I also got Prostatitis…to start with I couldn’t walk without having to stop every minute or so, couldn’t sleep as every position I got into was uncomfortable..I was put on a two week course of antibiotics which eased the pain, I then had another two weeks of antibiotics at a higher dosage along with a month of antibiotics for my prostate…this made such a difference to the point where I was still in a bit of pain but it didn’t stop me living…roll on to now and I’m pain free when walking, a slight bit of discomfort when peeing, I can now eat and drink anything..I sleep most of the night which is a massive plus..I have found that walking has really helped..a 10 minute brisk walk seems to do wonders for me…I can hold my bladder without panicking I’m gonna pee myself…
try the walking if you can….
best wishes Nigel xx
Hi Rob R
you say you have had your #18 bcg (well done for getting so far!), how many doses do you need to have in total? I am on #15 out of #27 and the consultant has put me on pause as i am in pain during weeing and frequent trips day and night (worser at night) as well as prostatitis. I am on oflaxacin for my prostate and solifenacin succinate for overactive bladder. Can i ask which you are on as my gp is at a loss as these are not effective enough. I am also to chat with my consultant in october to decide whether to continue with bcg treatment or stop altogether, i am not sure what to do..
Regards
