Hello friends, hope everyone is doing well.
I have a phone meeting next Wednesday with my surgeon. Iam guessing it's talk about the biopsy they took during my recent RC.
my question is this. Would they break bad news to you over the phone, such as more treatment is required? Surely if that was the case they would bring to the hospital and tell me face to face.
Iam not sure what to think. With the NHS being so busy maybe it makes sense just to phone people whatever the outcome.
Any previous experiences would be much appreciated
Best wishes to all
Mark
Hi Mark, I have had lots of these calls although the first with the surgeons after my op and after discharge was in person to check how the stoma was getting along. Mind you, they told me they had got it all out while I was still on the ward.
When they rang before the op to tell me I had a blood clot in my lung so the op was cancelled and I needed to inject myself with blood thinners, that wasn't a scheduled call.
When I saw my oncologist the other day the CT scan results weren't in so she booked a call in 4 weeks to tell me the results. We aren't expecting bad news but if there is any she'll tell me then.
Overall I'd say prepare for anything and hope for the best. And try not to meet trouble half way. As I always say, worry does not cure cancer (or anything else).
All the best,

Thanks latestart
My wife Is of the opinion that if its anything bad they would bring me in to tell me.
I've had phone calls before with the surgeon but that was to organise the surgery.
Ah well , I've only a few days to wait anyway how.
Best wishes
Mark
Hi Mar09
Can only recount my experience on this.
I was given a face to face appointment with my surgeon a month or so after R C. I Was told that the biopsy had shown some cancer cells at the margin of my urethra and a further small precautionary operation called a urethrectomy was needed to to remove all traces. This was just one night in hospital and although painful short term, recovery was swift.
If you are only getting a phone meeting with surgeon I would think this is good news and no immediate action is required. Let us know how you get on.
