Good morning friends.
As i posted , I had my RC three weeks ago and iam now at home recovering and getting used to my stoma.
It all seems to be going well. I have just one concern, what happens next?
My surgeon told me the operation went well, I didn't ask any questions but I know I should have.
Is my cancer completely gone?
What happens next?
There questions are going through my head and causing me a degree of concern.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Ps. I've an appointment with my stoma nurse this morning so I'll reply back when I can.
Hope everyone is well.
Many thanks
Mark
Hi flipfinder
It's probably not as bad as it's made out to be. It's a big lifestyle change there's no doubt about that. The advice here is great on the forum, it lets you tweek things and make things better.
Iam 4 weeks post op today and getting more confident as each day passes.
I keep reminding myself when things don't seem to go your way, what's the alternative? The answer quite simply is, there is none.
Hope your keeping well
Mark
Hi Flipfinder,It is a big surgery and you have to adapt but it’s suprising how quickly you can do this.Your confidence grows with time and practice. It’s 5 and a half years since my surgery and the early days are a distant memory. This group helped enormously through the recovery which was a lonely time.Jane xx
Hi Jane
Iam sure it seems like a lifetime ago. There are days I wonder what it's all about and how we all ended up like this. But as I say there's no alternative we need to get rid of the cancer and give ourselves the best possible chance. No doubt you like I would do it all over again.
Best wishes Jane
Mark
Hi Mark,I had no choice when the surgeon said I was in a serious situation.I was so fortunate to get the surgery just in time. Some aspects seem recent and in other ways it does feel like a long time ago.I was so pleased to be out of bladder pain that the complications though unpleasant were bearable. How are you feeling ? You sound like you are doing well.Jane x
Hi Jane
Iam not too bad. Iam suffering a bit from really bad wind on my stomach which iam putting down to the bowels being moved. The day after I got out from hospital I had fluid leaking from my wound and ended up back there were the nurses dressed it . I was put on anti biotics from the doctor my. I gathered up nearly 750mls on two days when it started leaking again over the weekend. It has stopped now and the wound is pretty much healed.
Iam just getting each day over as best I can. I know it will take time. The stoma Sidney is doing well but the sticky bit on the bag really itches my skin.
Ah well enough of my complaints lol.
Hope your feeling well today?
Mark
Hi Mark,I’m sorry you had problems with the wound.Itchiness can be an issue some people need to change the type of bag they use.The bowels can take time to get back to normal especially if you get Ileus post op.I’m not feeling good today.I get a lot of days when everything flares up I have a long history of auto immune problems.Best wishes to you and Sidney recovery is tedious but hopefully each week you will improve and regain energy.I found it helpful to take up a relaxing hobby to fill the time when I got a couple of months into the recovery.

Thanks Jane
Sorry to hear your not feeling well today. Hopefully tomorrow you feel better. The clocks go forward this weekend so we'll have longer days and maybe some nice spring weather. It always seems to improve people's outlook.
Get well soon Jane

How about thinking of it as 'ride it and live?'
By the time I got to the operation, after 4 rounds of chemo plus heart checks, liver checks, blood clots and blood thinners, CT scans, MRIs etc I was glad, and as soon as I came round and they let me out of bed I started getting my fitness back.
2 years & 2 months later I'm still improving and have long forgotten it all. Quality of life very good, especially for a 72 year old. There's a lot for you to look forward to.
All the best,
