Hi, I posted a over a week ago:  Next steps/timescales?

Here is a little update:

The Consultant has confirmed my Husbands urachal remnant has a tumour with Perivesical fat stranding, which is located at the top of the bladder dome outside of the bladder.

He also has cancer inside the bladder at the top too, which is the mass my Husband saw on camera that looked like coral.

They also said that my Husband’s bowel is badly involved. The bowel is inflammed too, and signs of divertitilcular disease and loops of the bowel have attached itself to the bladder in that area too.

They now need to confirm if this is down to bowel cancer that's invaded the bladder (which they believe it could be as the DNA make up of urachal remnant cancer is normally the same as colon cancer.) or if its a seperate issues like eroded divertitilcular and not bowel cancer.

They have referred him to colorectal for the bowel to be investigated. That apt is in a few weeks and they have marked it as priority.

Also said a biopsy will be needed to confirm which is the primary, bowel or bladder cancer... they will work with both urology and colorectal dept to decide next steps.

So still more waiting...

Xxx

  • Thank you Rily, it's such a strange time. We have been in limbo for weeks and still there. I'm sure that feeling will remain until we know more soon. X

  • Hi MrsWife, the waiting and not knowing what the next steps are must be incredibly stressful for you both. my heart goes out to you, just wanted to wish you all the best and hope you get some answers very soon.

  • Hi mrswife,

  • Hi MrsWife,I’m sorry to hear you have to do more waiting.I hope it won’t be too much longer before you both know the situation.Best wishes and love to you both.Jane xx

  • Thanks everyone. Since hearing the news we are not as emotional as we were when waiting for it. We kind of now know what we are dealing with, just need to confirm the bowel side of things. I'm sure the emotions will rise again and it will be a never ending rollercoaster for a while.

Thank you for being a safe space to share this with. Xx

  • Hi,

I was searching the forums for info on urachal cancer and found your post.

i was initially diagnosed with bowel cancer and on my CT scan they found what they thought was a urachal cyst.

i had an anterior resection for my bowel cancer and a partial cystectomy for the bladder cancer. The cancer was also in my lymph nodes and blood vessels that were removed from near my bowel.

both cancers are Adenocarcinoma. The urachal tumour has been sent off for more tests to determine if it’s a net from the bowel or a separate cancer.

at present I’m In limbo, waiting to find out if I’m stage 4 bowel cancer or that I have 2 separate cancers, with one being rare and hard to treat.

im waiting for my 1st oncology appt in 3 weeks as the bowel team have said I definitely need chemo.

how did your husband get on?

    has he had chemo?

was it a separate cancer on his bowel?

im hoping things are going better for you and your husband xx

  • Hi. So sorry you're going through this. My heart truly hurts for you as the pain we experienced when we were told our jews was horrendous.

I do actually have positive news regarding my Husband. After having further tests they informed us it was not cancer at all and a benign mass and also a cyst that hasn't grown from the bowel into the bladder. Thankfully this required no treatment and he has a follow up next month to see how much it has regressed as the scan at the end of last year showed improvement.

The consultants were as shocked as us that it wasn't what they told us it was. Obviously we are so pleased, it took us a long time to accept it as we had been told it was definitely cancer then it definitely wasnt. It messed with our life big time and he was experiencinga lot of guilt for worrying everyone - but that wasnt his fault.. We do know he will need a bowel resection at some point due to the damage the mass caused but hopefully not just yet as he is dowing much better, still experiencing discomfort etc but without a cancer diagnosis.

I truly hope your treatment goes smoothly and you will be in my thoughts. Learn on those around you. You don't have to deal with it alone. X
