Hi, a few weeks ago my Husband was unwell and put on antibiotics for a suspected UTI, after no improvement and blood in his urine he went to urgent care.
They immediately did a CT scan and found "bulking" in the bladder and he was referred to urology.
A week later he had a Cystoscopy and they saw a mass in the bladder that looked like coral. They said he has bladder cancer but not sure which one, as there is evidence he has a urachal remnant. (I'm guessing these is evident on the CT scan he had?)
The urologist said he will need a further CT with contrast first (that's booked for tomorrow) and then they would be able to confirm what we are actually dealing with. A further apt is booked for a weeks time.
Does anyone know the timescales for next steps if removal of the cancer or bladder is?
The waiting has been to worst part.
Thank you.
Hi MrsWife and welcome to the group, although sorry to hear your husband may have bladder cancer. the usual next step after scans is an operation to remove any tumours. The op is called a TURBT (trans urethral resection of bladder tumour). The offending cells are scraped away and biopsies taken for analysis. The results determine if it is cancer and what further treatment is needed. Timescales vary from hospital to hospital but usually takes several weeks waiting. Best wishes.
Hi Mrswife. I am doing ok. Thank you for asking. I am ten years down the line. The waiting is something everyone finds hard. The early days of uncertainty and not knowing can be the worst times. Once a plan is in place, there is something positive to focus on. Lots of varying experiences so feel free to ask anything. Best wishes.
Hello MrsWife, and loving your web name! I too am the patient's OH.
Hard to do I know but the best thing is to keep busy with whatever engages your minds, just to distract yourselves. Above all stick to macmillan advice or any other recommended from here, avoid that wel known search engine, because it's algorhythms are programmed to dish doom and gloom , often out of date to boot.
best, Denby
