husband diagnosed

Hello. My husband had a cystoscopy on Friday 26th July and we were told he had bladder cancer. A Turbt was carried out on Tuesday 30th July, where he was told 'we think we got it all' He has not had any further communication from the hospital since (which I believe is normally for results to take 4 weeks)

Since the 28th July he has being taking antibiotics for Strep Pneumonia, which was found in a urine sample after a visit to out of hours doctor, (he was in a lot of pain and struggling to urinate.)

This evening his flow of urine stopped mid flow, he said it felt like he was still urinating but it wasn't coming out and he then passed a " foreign object"  What could this be? Could it be a scab from an internal wound? Tumour?

He is going to telephone his Gp in the morning but I wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience? It wasn't a blood clot he has passed quite a few of those already and this looked completely different.

Sorry if this was to much info to be shared, but I am very concerned about him.

  • Hello  and welcome to this friendly and supportive group. The first thing to take on board is that Bladder Cancer can be treated successfully. A few weeks following a TURBT the scab from the wound starts breaking away and is passed. There may be some blood and clots. This is normal, however, if the blood is excessive and he cannot pee, then he would need intervention. If he cannot pee at all, there may be a blockage and a call to 111 or a visit to A+E would be needed. In the meantime, it is important to drink copious amounts of water to flush the debris out. If all is well and he has not heard about results, then a call to urology to chase them up may be needed, but appointments usually depend on how busy the consultants are. Lots of experience here so feel free to ask anything. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi lab lovers wife,

    Welcome to this friendly forum.

I can't really add anything that rily has already mentioned, but I do remember something similar, in that I wee'd something out after a couple of weeks after my TURBT. This gave me a shock for sure. It must have been the scab, but remember thinking all sorts.

I had the same after my second TURBT.

Has your husband been given a Cancer Support Nurse? Perhaps a quick call to them might answer your questions?

Hope you get some answers soonest.

    Take care.

    Trevor

  • Hi Lab lovers wifey,Welcome to the group though I’m sorry you find yourself here.It could be the scab or part of the tumour itself.I remember passing a lot of debris when first diagnosed. No info is too much on here we discuss all sorts. We are all here to help and support you and your husband.Best wishes Jane x

  • Thank you Rily, that helped knowing it was 'normal'

  • Thank you Trevor. My husband Mark was definately shocked. We vaguely remember the Urologist saying the number for the cancer support nurse was on the leaflet/letter but we have looked and can't find it. I have suggested he telephones Urology tomorrow to ask.

The waiting for answers is the worse and patience is not one of our virtues unfortunately. Thank you again.

  • Whatever it was Lab lovers wifey, it's better out than in!

Do we [many of us animal lovers] take it you have Labrador family member/s? If so I hope they are being a great comfort to you both at this time.

  • Oh!  I took it as a science laboratory rather than a dog/labrador  :-o

  • I did to begin with, let's hope for being told which presently Slight smile

  • I'm sorry for the delay in replying but yes we have four Labradors in our home at present, one is moving out soon with my son. They are a comfort and a very big distraction.
