I’m new - just had my investigation appointment

I’ve just had my urology investigation appointment after waiting nearly a year. I’m under 45 so didn’t meet the fast track process. I get re-occurring UTI’s.

They took a look in my bladder and found a small area of concern (around 2mm/didn’t look angry) and are now fast tracking me for a byopsy under general anaesthetic and a scan. I’ve been given a MacMillan number to call if I need it.

I know this is all standard procedure and I’m glad what they found was small and is being checked out but I suffer terribly with health anxiety. It seems very few bladder findings are non-cancerous which has scared me. I’m reaching out for support.

  • Hi  and welcome to this friendly and supportive group, although sorry to hear of your concerns. The positive is that it is now being investigated. It is understandable how you are feeling as we have been there. If it does turn out to be bladder cancer, then be aware it can be treated successfully. The procedure you will likely be having is called a TURBT (trans urethral resection of bladder tumour). Sounds a lot worse than it is. Usually done in day surgery but prepare for an overnight just in case. Any offending cells will be scaped away and sent for analysis. A couple of weeks wait for results and they will then take it from there if needs be. Lots of experience here so feel free to ask any questions or just come and talk. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Kittybones,Welcome to the group.I’m sorry you find yourself here.I hope you will find plenty of advice and support here.Best wishes Jane x

  • Hi Kittybones, welcome to this group that has helped and supported me in the past year since my diagnosis. Like you I was anxious and afraid and they held me steady through all investigations. I am so sorry that you suffer with health anxiety, I hope you are getting support with that. Please stay away from Dr google as most of its information can be well out of date, it wont help your anxiety at all. If you have been given a contact number, It may help to get in touch with them to get reassurance.
I am doing well 14 months since diagnosis and feel very optimistic. Keep in touch with the forum , we understand how it is .

    Much love Angela x

  • Thank you so much for your reply and guidance. I really appreciate it.

  • Hi Angela, thank you so much for reaching out to me. Health anxiety has been part of my life since 2017 and anything cancer related is a huge trigger for me. It’s so hard. I’m pleased you’re doing well xx

  • Hi Kittybones,

Sorry to hear you have had to wait so long for support, but so glad you are getting it now. This is the right place for you to ask whatever questions you want and get support, so welcome.I was in theatre today whilst the consultant was investigating an irritated area of my bladder, I was in and out the same day. Welcome to the party (that admittedly we don’t want to go to Grinning Leo

  • Hi Leo - thank you for replying. This is the only place I've felt I’ll get honest and supportive answers.

I didn't meet the urgent referral criteria. I’m 43 and needed to be 45 so the wait was long for an appointment. My mind is in the “what if” stage. I wish it would turn off! The health anxiety trigger has well and truly been pulled.

I hope your procedure did what it needed to do and you get a positive outcome.

I laughed at the party comment…this party is rubbish…at least the people are absolutely awesome!

    :)
