Hi I've just had a TURBT on the 5th January - I first saw blood in my urine on my birthday (8th October 2023). After 4 crazy & hard fought for appointments with my GP where I was prescribed 3 different courses of antibiotics (2 were over the phone appointments) My urine was now red & full of clots & I was getting bladder spasms & the pain was escalating. I attended A&E following speaking to the 111 service twice. Saw the out of hours GP who tested my 'bloody'urine & was prescibed more antibiotics. Second visit to A&E & 12 hrs later I saw a Dr, he put me on the Fast track programme on 12th December, I had a call the next day arranging dates for CT & cystoscopy(? right label for said scopy into one's bladder?!) & bloods.
Had cystoscopy (?) On 19th December - immediately found 'tumours' & informed me re TURBT & given contact no. for CNS. rang CNS next day, discussed process & the pain I was in, she organised appointment for out of hours Dr, seen within 20 minutes of arrival & prescribed pain meds.
Had TURBT on 5th January & given chemo for 1hr post op'. Kept in hospital as urine was full of blood & clots & the pain from bladder spasms was agony, Discharged home next afternoon....I was partially incontinent of blood filled urine (I was informed that this was normal - which did ease my escalating anxiety over the state I was in!
I'm still in agony when my bladder decides to spasm...There's just no way of predicting when they're going to happen & I'm still incontinent because of the spasms.
However, the blood has gone! And I'm waiting for 4 weeks when I am being sent an appointment to discuss the results etc. After the op' my Urologist said that the tumour had grown to 3 1/2 cm & that he'd found a second tumour hiding behind the first one!
Are these bladder spasms 'normal'?!
I believe that I'm very lucky to have ŵaited the 12 hrs & 14 minutes to see the A&E Dr. I've been treated with genuine, warm & friendly staff through all procedures & I'm amazed at the speed of all my appointments...I thought I'd be waiting ages for my operation...how wrong was I?!
So, that's where I am for now - one day at a time but feeling like a lost child in a supermarket that's all new to me.Thank you for your time & patience in reading this!
xXx
Hi Aitch44, its good that you are sharing your story. The folk on here are lovely and welcoming and plenty of us have a rant . I am glad to hear that you have felt warmth and kindness from the staff treating you and your operation progressed quickly. I have found the same with my treatment. The waiting for biopsy and turbt results can be a few weeks and I have found that really stressful.. I hope things go well for you , stay in touch, there will be many welcoming you On here I am sure. It is all a bit of a whirlwind to get your head round when it happens so quickly.

Hi Aitch44,Welcome to this friendly group.Sorry that you have been having bladder spasms. They can happen and I feel for you as know how painful they are. There is plenty of advice and support here so feel free to ask questions. No one will mind if you need to rant.I hope you recover quickly from the TURBT.I used to find a hot water bottle over the bladder helped with pain along with plenty of water and painkillers if needed.Love and best wishes Jane x
