Diagnosed with bladder cancer last week and although the NHS have been brilliant so far I feel although there are people who can help me fill in the gaps such as when does urology pass me onto oncology or do they  I had e telephone consultation last week and when I asked if I could take what we’d discussed was good news it was confirmed it was I still feel about in the dark

  • Hi  and welcome to the group. It all depends on where you are up to at the moment and what you have had done. If you have had a TURBT to remove any tumours, you need to wait for biopsy results to see where you go from there. Feel free to ask anything if not sure. Best wishes

  • Hi Johnty1022,Welcome to the group.I hope you find it helpful.Best wishes Jane

  • Hi Johnty if it helps I have stayed with urology throughout. I have high grade non invasive bladder cancer and had had two TURBTs and 6 bcg treatments so far. The multi disciplinary team which discussed my results behind the scenes included an oncologist I think but I haven't seen one. Hope you get another chance to ask questions soon! Alice

  • Hi rily

i had a spare few minutes so went onto the forum

Anyway I now understand what you meant re ‘what you have had done far in your first thread HERE’ so hopefully have done it correctly now sorry I really am a newbie.

    Hi rily

First of all can I thank you and everyone who have helped myself and I’m sure many others with invaluable advice and support in the short time since that I have been a member.

On 29th August there was blood in my urine so I made an appointment with my GP and saw him on 31/8 He put me on the cancer pathway and I underwent a flexible cystoscopy in September. I was informed that there was a growth in my bladder needing further investigation and I would have a ct scan

I had my ct scan mid September and then a rigid cystoscopy TURBT and Mytomycin mid October. I then had a telephone consultation first week of November when (hopefully I’ve recalled this correctly because my notes are a bit jumbled) I was informed I had a non invasive grade 2 tumour (high grade) pTa. I am to have another TURBT to check that they had got everything and take more cells for biopsy and after approx 3 weeks for my bladder to heal I would undergo a six week course of chemotherapy

    thanks again to everyone

  • Hi  . Your story so far is a fairly text book line of treatment. A follow up TURBT is also standard just to mop up and help with a more accurate diagnosis. Grade 2 is usually classed as medium risk. Ta is very early stage just sitting on the bladder lining. The follow up chemo is usually Mitomycin directly in to the bladder to help prevent any recurrences. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.
