Hi, my name is Paul,  male aged 59. I had turbt last Friday,  all went well except it's invasive cancer, they couldn't scrape all the tumour out. I have lymphedema in my neck, this will be analysed by FNA tomorrow. Also I have some bone pain and increasing general fatigue. I think it will be classed as stage 4. I  don't want to survive 5 years if I have this low quality of life. I have no children or family. I've lived an adventurous life in 40 countries, hiking, being active... is it wrong for me not to want to "battle" this thing? Do I have a moral responsibility to want to live as long as possible? Thanks guys.

  •  . Hi Paul, and welcome to this friendly and supportive group although sorry to hear you have bladder cancer. It is not uncommon for them not to get everything during the first TURBT. It is usual for people to have a follow up TURBT to mop up anything they may have missed. You will not have had your histology report yet, so maybe a bit early to be thinking the way you are. You would not know the stage until the results are in and then you may have a different outlook on things. Lots of experience here, so please talk to us and ask any questions you may have. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Paul,Welcome to this friendly group.I don’t think it’s wrong if you don’t want to battle but I agree with rily.Once you get your histology results back you will know more and can decide on what is best for you.Whatever you decide there is support and advice on here.Best wishes Jane

  • Hi rily thanks for your reply, I didn't mention that the tumour left was because it's in the muscle, it wasn't"missed", and working diagnosis is stated as invasive bladder cancer, I think my assumption is appropriate given the facts, I am not one to catastrophise or jump to conclusions.

  • Hi Paul. If it is any reassurance, I was diagnosed with muscle invasive and aggressive bladder cancer. That was ten years ago and so far so good. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Paul, sorry to hear of your bad start in this journey, hopefully with time and chewing the cud with as many people as you need to and can,.. you may (hopefully) feel differently and stronger.
I only started this horrible journey at the end of May this year, my 1st TURBT end of July was to remove my tumour (admittedly non invasive), my 2nd TURBT was 8 weeks later 18thSept., and after 4 weeks waiting for biopsy results, I’ve now waiting to start Mitomycin (chemo) treatment for next 6 weeks anytime now.

It’s hard waiting around, but it’s the not knowing that’s the hardest bit….. not in control, can’t plan, knowing people are possibly making decisions before you can. At our age ( I’m a 57 yr independent female) it doesn’t feel right……. But I’ve learnt in a short space of time to take each step, hour, day and stage at a time.

please wait it out, get your results and deal with the fallout then before righting yourself off… there’s more to you than this episode, as your adventurous life has proved. I wake up most days looking for the huge motorbike that’s run me over during the night.

There is a lot of experience of most things in this group, use it, even if you only read it and don’t post…..you’ve got this.!
    best wishes for now
