Hi, I.c new to this. Mum has been diagnosed with aggressive bladder cancer and she starts first chemo on Thursday. I am wondering what to expect, and how to support Mum and Dad. We are all very worried as she had mouth cancer and just been discharged from that. She's very petite and the consultant has already told her she could lose up to a stone. Please has anyone got any small shred of advice. Thank you

  • Hi  and welcome to this supportive group, although sorry to hear of Mum's diagnosis. It is understandable how you must be feeling, but bladder cancer can be treated successfully and the earlier caught the better. Do you know what treatment Mum has had so far? There are different types of immunotherapy. Is it directly in to the bladder or intravenous?  Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Lady Gibbs,Welcome to this friendly group.I hope you will find it helpful.Best wishes to your mum for her chemo.Jane

  • I am not sure I think it will be intravenous. The cancer she has is very aggressive. She's already had to wait since before June for all the tests the gp kept treating her for what they thought was an imfection. Instead of soing proper scans and tests.

  • Hi  . If Mum is going for chemo, the usual regimen for bc is Gem/Cis (Gemcitabine and Cisplatin). If this is the case it can be a long day. Mum needs to wear loose comfortable clothes. Take some snacks and drinks and something to keep her occupied. Anti sickness meds need to be taken as prescribed. They are meant to prevent nausea rather than stopping it if it happens. A good quality mouth wash used regularly can help prevent mouth sores. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.
