Hello, my dad got diagnosed yesterday with sarcomatoid cancer of the bladder and its aggressive and extensive. He was fine until he had some blood in his urine and then we've waited 7 weeks for results. We were sort of optimist going in and then boom. Our world's have been shattered. They are sending him to the oncology department next week but no idea what they'll offer. Apparently chemo and radio are options but it's like just throwing stuff at it blind apparently. I just need some comfort. I live with my mum and dad and I'm living every breath of this with them and it's horrendous to watch them so sad and helpless. Even if someone says I'm here if you need me would be enough at this stage we feel so isolated. You get told life changing news and then you just go home. It's mental - I can't believe this is the process but think it's normal. Anyway. hope everyone is having a pleasant day. The weather is changing to more autumnal feelings after our one week of sunshine! Best wishes Jen
Hey Jen, wow, tough times.
To try and give some comfort, so far, timescales and responses seem "normal". Oncology will work up a plan and discuss it thoroughly with you all. Be involved, be strong and ask questions. Nothing should be off limits.
Now for you and your folks, look to see what support is out there. Forums like this are great, as is counselling, etc. You need to find your own way. Also look to see if there are other forums. I was diagnosed with life limiting bladder cancer, so I have also joined that group.
I get the shock and feelings of helplessness. They are not wrong or unusual. They are normal.
There are unfortunately lots of us here to talk with. Don't be afraid.
Keep on keeping on.
Simon
Thank you Simon. What nice people there are on here and it's really comforting to know there's a community of people out there. We've never experienced this before and never been in this situation and we are probably going to have a bumpy ride to say the least. Thanks so much again for all your words
Hi VeveJ03. as I've just written for someone else, do have a look for your local Carers' Association which you and your Mum can register with for free. The support offered varies a lot from place to place but may be very helpful. Check out the' How are we all' thread here too for general chat and support.
Best, Denby
