Hi all. My 65 year old husband is not really one for forums so am posting instead. He had blood in urine early Jan 2023. Scan in Feb. Tumour seen on bladder. TURBT April 19. Was kept in for 2 nights - removed catheter but failed to pre so came home with catheter and TWOC appointment 2 weeks later. Failed TWOC decided try without -but constant peeing and rehospitaluzed with UTI ….- constant UTIs since op.constant antibiotics. Catheter back in. Finally had post op consultation results by phone yesterday (June 8) - was told surface only ie not muscle invasive so we are relieved and feel very lucky. But was 5cm which is apparently large. Told about possibility of recurrence. He will have cystocopy under general mid July and results of that late August. The waiting time and miscommunications re appointments calls etc has been really poor and he gets very anxious trying to chase for info and the frequent visits back to A&E with leaking catheter. Next TWOC in 2 weeks. Has anyone else had catheter issues since the op and any advice. He is worried will never be without catheter. He is 65. Really healthy and generally fit. Pre op walked 10,000 steps per day. Any comments on any of this or words of advice. Shared stories are welcome. Thank you
Hi Veritas12 and welcome to the group although sorry to hear your husband has bladder cancer. Be aware bladder cancer can be treated successfully and many of us can testify to this. What he has had done so far is fairly routine. A catheter is used in some cases where it may not be possible to pee normally. Possibly because of location of the tumour and we know they can cause problems. The size is not as important as to how deep things are. Good to know it may only be on the lining. A follow up cystoscopy is also routine just to mop up and give them a more accurate diagnosis. a CT scan should also be on the cards. We know that the admin side of things can be a bit erratic and waiting is something people find hard to get used to. Not had catheter problems myself so hopefully someone may be along to offer advice. Lots of experience here so always someone o answer questions. Best wishes.
