Hi folks,
I am Sara. 27 years old female who suffers from sever OAB/IC. I am considering the bladder removal surgery as the last step. My surgeon said they will only remove my bladder and the surrounding structures (vagina, uterus, clitoris etc.) will be intact.
I am wondering how my sexual function will be affected by this surgery? Has anyone had such a surgery who can share their experience with me?
Kind regards,
Sara
Good Morning Sarah. Sorry I can't help with your question, but just let me welcome you to the group. Hopefully someone with experience of this will be along to help. Best wishes.
Hi, I'm female & had surgery age 57, so had full hysterectomy as well. I had neobladder (reconstruction) - do you know what type of urinary diversion you are having? As your surgery is not for cancer, they may well be able to leave more of the vagina than otherwise. Normally it ends up slightly shortened. Obviously post op you will need to recover strength & energy, but after that, should be nothing to stop you enjoying a full sex life, although it may feel a little different at first. Best wishes.
Hi Teasswill , thank for your reply. I’m getting a urostomy bag. I’m glad that it’s not gonna negatively affect my sexual life. Let me ask you another question. Do you feel dehydrated most of the time after the surgery?
No, I don't recall feeling dehydrated - what makes you ask? I never drank a lot before I was diagnosed with BC - possibly one of the risk factors. After my TURBT I did up my intake & post RC was having about 2.5L per day. Having got used to that, I do notice occasionally feeling thirsty. Intake these days (apart from any liquid in food) is probably around 1.5 - 2L.
Very weak & tired at first, definitely!
That’s very good to know. I asked because I had read such a thing somewhere before so I just wanted to make sure that’s not gonna the case. Hope it keeps going well for you!
