Hi, I am 69 and I have recently been diagnosed with bladder cancer. I've had surgery to remove most of the tumour but am now waiting to get my chemo schedule. To say I am scared would be a massive understatement but I am determined to get through it.. will be having Gemcis treatment - anyone currently on it?
Hi Tykico and welcome to the group. You will get lots of support and help here as you go forward. We understand how you are feeling as we have been there. I had intravenous Gem/Cis for muscle invasive bc. Once a week for 6 weeks. I didn't have any real problems with it although we know some people have some form of side effects. It can be a long day so wear loose and comfortable clothes, plenty of snacks and drinks and something to keep you occupied. Feel free to ask any questions. Best wishes.
Hi Rily, thank you for the advice - especially about snacks and drinks, I didn't think about that. I will take my Kindle to hopefully occupy me! I hope I can follow your lead and get by without too many side effects - I am expecting the worst but hoping for the best. Are you having further treatment or check ups? (sorry if I'm too nosy)
Kind regards Tykico
Hi Rily, I am also expecting radiotherapy after the chemo , all being well.. This has all come as a bit of a shock as it was all so sudden, only started in March, with a colossal failure by my GP practice ( won't bore you with details but there is a formal complaint in place....) I am trying hard to get my head around all the information I've been given by the Hospital teams but feeling overwhelmed and out of control. I worry about my husband as he has taken it hard too and wants to help, I tell him he is helping by supporting me and ferrying me to and from the hospital appointments but I know he feels as lost as I do and that makes me try to reassure him that I am "ok" My daughter is also upset and worried and I try not to make a big fuss, but I suppose I just feel that there is nobody I can "vent" to and you were kind enough to respond as someone who already knows what I am going through. Thank you again for taking the trouble to share advice with me.
Kind regards
Tykico
