Hello
I am new to this group
My husband is currently undergoing BCG treatment. He has high grade CIS non muscle invasive Bladder cancer, which was diagnosed in January this year, a year after having his prostate removed.
If this treatment is not successful he will have to have his bladder removed. Obviously this is a very scary and stressful time. I would like to know if anyone on this forum has been successfully treated with BCG.
Thank you
Hi Suedc and a warm welcome to the group. Short answer is yes. Many people have passed through here having successful BCG treatment. in cases where it has failed, some people try again or try the alternative of Mitomycin treatment. I went a different way, but hopefully someone with BCG experience will be along. Best wishes.
Hi Suedc, my husband was diagnosed this time last year with non muscle invasive grade 3 bladder cancer, he had 6 BCG then TURBT then 3 maintenance BCG then flexible cystoscopy, then now starting, last Friday 3 more maintenance BCG, all seems to be going ok (fingers crossed) no further cancer cells showing.
BCG has gone ok, no major problems, he is watching something on tv at the moment and chuckling away so seems happy, plus he cooked tonight, sweet and sour chicken and fried rice, so 1 day after BCG definitely no adverse reactions.
Hope all goes ok with you and your husband x
Hi Ma Baker
Thanks for your reply.
Glad to hear that BCG treatment is going well for your husband. My husband is terrified of the thought of having his bladder removed ,but I’ve read some positive stories on here of people living well after surgery. Anyway I’m jumping ahead and pray that this BCG treatment works.
Good morning Suedc and welcome to the group. My experience of BCG started in February 2021 and continued with 15 procedures until August last year. I’ve had two recurrences and after a biopsy in February this year the conclusion was reached that the BCG had not worked effectively. Bladder removal was discussed but eliminated in view of the extent of the surgery and pre existing medical conditions. The next option was mitmycin which will begin in the course of the next weeks. This is disappointing but nothing is predetermined with medical issues and we are all different. Best wishes to you and your husband , J
Hello all
My husband has completed his first 6 BCG installations. He felt a bit under the weather for a day or so after each one but wasn’t too bad at all, and has carried on working throughout . Today is the day he goes for the cystoscopy to see if it’s working. I’m not sure how long we’ll have to wait for the results but hopefully not too long.
