Hi All

Recently been diagnosed with a rare bladder cancer (small cell), and had my second appointment with the oncologist yesterday. So, I have agreed to follow the recommended treatment plan, documentation signed. My first chemotherapy session is on Thursday of this week. Not sure how I feel about it - anxious, nervous, apprehensive, all sorts of emotions going through my head. How did others feel in a similar situation. Just looking for some reassurances, shared experiences and thoughts. Thanks

  • Hello  and welcome to the group. We know how anxious the early days of uncertainty and not knowing can be. I had six weeks of chemo (Gem/Cis)and didn't find it too bad. It can be a long day so wear loose and comfortable clothes. Plenty of drinks and snacks and something to keep you busy. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • There are a lot of kind people on here.Do you have support from family and friends ? It is all overwhelming at first and your head can feel all over the place with emotions.People tend to feel better mentally once treatment starts.Jane x

  • Yes, I have quite a good support network support from friends and family. My wife does most of the running around, and my son comes over when he can, plus I have supportive step-sister.  I have a social network of friends who are wishing me the best. Thanks for your encouraging reply x 1am

  • Hi there.

My husband was diagnosed with small cell bladder cancer in January this year. After a rocky few months with recurring infections after his TURBT he had internal stents and then bilateral nephrostomies. He's been a lot better since then and getting on with chemo.

He has carboplatin and etoposide which is same as for small cell lung cancer. We were told this type of cancer responds well and at last review we were told no spread elsewhere which is good. He has one more chemo (so six in all) and then 4 weeks of daily radiotherapy. He has another CT next week with dyes etc so they can see his bladder properly (it's contracted due to the nephrostomies so they couldn't get a good look at the growth at last CT)

We have also been told this is a rare and aggressive cancer and can and probably will come back.

I've read some good things about immunotherapy but we're not at that point yet.

Good luck with your chemo. Stay positive and keep on keeping on.

I've just replied to another post about small cell bladder cancer. It's hard to find much info online as it's so rare..the info you can find is varied and some of it not very positive.

But at least that's now 3 of us in this forum.
