Hi I have just been given the devastating news I have bladder and possible ureter cancer.
I am a 75 Yr old female, fit and active for my age.
I have been given 2 choices of treatment, full bladder removal etc and a stoma bag fitted,or radiotherapy with follow up sessions and possible reoccurring tumours to be treated.I am opting for the Surgery,as the long term prognosis seems more hopeful.Needless to say I am frightened, and trying to come to terms with it all.
Hi Tangles and welcome to this friendly and supportive group. We know how you must be feeling at the moment as many of us have been there. Bladder cancer can be treated successfully . I went the radiotherapy route for muscle invasive ten years ago but many of our members have had bladder removal and will be along to offer advice and support. Easy to try and think too far ahead, but try and take things one step at a time. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Best wishes.
Thankyou for replying to my new message following my recent diagnosis. Before the diagnosis the only symptom I had was a routine blood test which indicated I had acute kidney damage in one kidney, functioning at only 25%.
Other than this I had no other symptoms.
It was the bladder tumour causing the damage to the kidney, and I have a blocked ureter tube.Currently fitted with a Nephrostomy tube, until I have the chosen Surgery. I feel shell shocked with this situation I am now in.How can I help myself to feel in control again?
Hi Tangles,Welcome to the group.I hope you will find it helpful and get some support. The early days following diagnosis are never easy as it’s a shock.Do you have supportive family and friends ? The people in this forum are friendly and I’m sure you will feel more in control talking here.Best wishes Jane
Yes I have a wonderful husband and close family, all trying to keep me optimistic. I have so much to get better for,4 lovely grandsons and 1 great grandson.Up till this diagnosis I have had such a happy and blessed life.I just want to get better and love my family for a few more years.
Hi Tangles
A number of us have had bladder removal and a urostomy formed, so while it’s such a shock getting a cancer diagnosis there can be lots of support for you going forward. On Friday just past it was my 3 year anniversary of surgery and in those 3 years I have not had any health issues related to my urostomy. You can get through this and come out the other side and live a good life. I wish you all the best with surgery, and keep asking questions here.

That is good to hear.I had my bladder removed over 3 years ago and lead a good life. Most people find that they feel better once they have a plan/date in place for treatment.Everybody here will be encouraging and be on hand with advice.Best wishes Jane
