when my husband was first diagnosed in 2011 I found this forum invaluable so hoping for the same this time
My husband had all his cancer removed, along with his bladder, prostate etc in 2013. He has been extremely fortunate in being cancer free and few urine infections since.
Last year he kept having what I believe were infections but the GP insisted he hadn’t so he just kept to drinking more water to wash it through.
Recently, he has been exceptionally tired and during His annual diabetes check up mentioned it to the nurse. Long story short he is now waiting for his GP appointment to be told he has kidney disease. We know this from his bloods just not how bad it is yet.
Now for the question, does anyone know how this is dealt with for someone who has no bladder?
I have to admit I am very angry at the moment so probably not in the best head space to deal with it objectively but any information could be helpful
Hi Molly56,Welcome back to the group.I am wondering the same thing.I had my bladder removed over 3 years ago and a recent scan has shown both kidneys are swollen.I have had a couple of abnormal kidney function blood tests though the last one was supposed to be ok.My new urologist doesn’t seem that concerned but requested another scan which I had last week.I am bothered as the surgeon and other members of the team did stress that renal complications//decline in function were a cause for concern following cystectomy.Hopefully someone with some experience can enlighten us on what happens next.I’m having an ultrasound in a couple of months time.Best wishes Jane
Hi, molly56.
I would suggest you talk to the specialist nurses. Although yr hubby has no bladder, the kidneys are a different organ despite being connected to the bladder and is subject to its own issues. I can understan you being angry and upset and not in a good place right now, but the nurses on here are very helpful and can set your mind at rest and oo can point you in the right direction. Good luck & best wishes
