Micropapillary bladder cancer

My partner was diagnosed with bladder cancer early in January and since then things have moved very fast.  3 weeks ago he had his bladder, prostate and some lymph nodes removed.  He has been told he will be having chemotherapy in about 3 weeks as his type of cancer is very aggressive and was found in 3 of the 17 lymph nodes he had removed plus it is evident in the lining of his abdomen.   He will be having Gemcis chemotherapy so if anyone has any suggestions or insights as what to expect it would be appreciated.

  • Hello  and welcome to the group although sorry to hear what your partner has been through. I had radiotherapy rather than RC, but I did have 6 weeks of Gem/Cis (Gemcitabine and Cisplatin). I had no real problems to talk about, but we know others have varying side effects. The regimen is usually long day one week followed by half day the following week then repeated over 6 weeks. A blood test is usually taken the day before each treatment. I had an arrangement for it with the practice nurse at the GPs, rather than travelling to the hospital It can be a long day in the chair, so loose comfortable clothes. Plenty of snacks and drinks. Something to keep him occupied, such as phone, i pad, books, mags etc. He should be prescribed anti sickness pills. These must be taken as prescribed as they are designed to prevent nausea rather than stopping it if it happens. Chemo can cause dehydration, so at home plenty of water. I hope  it goes well. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.
