My sister was referred cyscostomy result was abnormal growth(previously told at ultra sound she had a large fibroid) this was dismissed. Was told she will be sent for ct scan followed by turbt procedure 4 to 6 weeks to wait.
Understandable when the Dr. said any questions? she was so overwhelmed she said no so sent on her way. At home she realised she had not understood a thing.Feeling so worried rang her gp for advice who obviously could not tell her what's what but was very shocked to hear that she was not given any written information or an opportunity to talk to a specialist nurse she feels lost confused and so frightened.I have tried ringing the hospital unit still awaiting a response
Hi Sunshine forever and welcome to the group. It is understandable you are worried for your sister, but be aware bladder cancer can be treated successfully. It is not unusual for doctors to be non committal in early days as a cystoscopy is just a visible inspection. A TURBT operation is a fairly standard procedure. Usually done in day surgery with maybe an overnight stay. Any offending cells will be scarped away and samples sent for analysis. The results then confirm things and determine the next step and a treatment plan will be put in place. The early days of uncertainty and not knowing can be stressful for everyone. A CT scan is routine to rule out things elsewhere and gives them a bigger picture of what they are dealing with. If a cancer diagnosis is confirmed, then your sister should be allocated a designated CNS (cancer/clinical nurse specialist) who would be a contact for any information. Lots of experience here to help with questions. Best wishes.
Thank you so much for info I find this reassuring and I am sure sister will to.
Welcome to the group.I’m sorry your sister wasn’t given much information.Once the TURBT is done and the biopsy results are back things will become clearer.Your sister could write down any questions she has as there will be some kind of follow up appointment to discuss the results. We can help here with any queries too.Best wishes Jane
Thank you Jane for advice and will show her this page hopefully she will understand that she is not alone reassurance at this stage is key hopefully the waiting for the ct scan will be sooner than later
There is lots of support and advice on here and a growing female bladder cancer thread.I hope your sister will join us for some reassurance and to meet people in the same position.
