Hi all

i have elected for RC and ye old bladder will be out in 2 weeks. However still waiting to meet the Stoma nurse although pushing for same.

Can anyone on here advise as to best position of stoma.. is it best above or below where my belt and waistline is please?
Presumably the stoma nurse will advise?

Thankyou

Ian

  • Hi, although I don't have stoma, I was marked up for one prior to RC, just in case. Nurse took note of usual knicker line, natural skin creases etc. In short, they will choose for you!

After the op you will feel extremely weak & tired, with little or no stamina.  This will gradually improve. Try to build up walking (even if only a slow shuffle) a little more each day. When you are able to eat, little & often is the key, concentrating on protein & carbs, but anything you fancy is OK. Hope all goes well for you.

  • Hi,I was wearing trousers when measured and the stoma nurse took the measurement from the waistband therabouts. My stoma is more or less in line with my navel on the right side.Expect to feel weak and tired to begin with,my sister looked after me for the first few days.As Teasswill has said eating little but often is best.At first I could only walk a short distance to a nearby post box but built up the distance over time. It’s important to listen to your body.I found if I did too much I would feel sick.I felt very much better after 3 months and by 8 months I was able to resume caring for my disabled mother.Having a relaxing hobby may help during the recovery.Best wishes,do let us know how you get on.Jane

  • Thankyou Teasswell.. had a good and positive pre op session today ..and thanks for your advice re position of Stoma

  • Thankyou Jane..

Feel less anxious after pre op sessions today.. I’ve been building up my stamina ready for the operation.. my poor dog Ted has never been as fit!!

  • Keep at it, the exercise reallt helps.

It doesn't matter where you go, there you are
  • It’s good that you can get fit beforehand as it will be beneficial. Will you have to travel far for the op ?

  • Winkers60. Nottingham 20 miles..30 mins from home ..saw the very impressive new Urology unit today.. Urology seems to be rising up the medical discipline charts.. unless it’s just me and my bc journey..

    Thankyou
