Hi I just wanted to say hello. Recently diagnosed with bladder cancer and starting chemotherapy on Monday, any advice please would be helpful, thank you.
Hi Jackson62 and welcome to the group. Sorry to hear of your diagnosis, but you will get plenty of support here as you move forward. Can we ask what sort of chemo you will be having? In to the bladder or intravenous in to the veins? A bit of background may help with any help. Many of us and our families have been through this and come out the other side. Best wishes.
Hi thank you for your reply. My chemo is intravenous. My first treatment is Monday for 6 hours, I'm so nervous of the side effects. I have lots of support from my children (my husband left 12 months ago) but I will be home on my own and just scared of how I will be. Any help or advice will be so much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Hi Jackson62 . I had chemo (Gem/Cis) and didn't find it too bad. I could carry on a normal social life, but we know some people have some side effects. A few tips. It can be along day in the chair so wear loose and comfortable clothes. Take plenty of snacks and drinks. Something to keep you busy, such as book, phone etc. You should be prescribed anti sickness tabs. These must be taken as prescribed even if you do not feel sick. They are designed to prevent sickness rather than stopping it if it happens. Chemo can make you dehydrated, so afterwards keep drinking lots of water. I hope it goes well. Best wishes.
Mine was due to be six weeks. Long day one week with half day following week. I had two delays because of low bloods which is common and this stretched it to 8 weeks. You usually need a blood test the day before each session. I arranged it with the practice nurse at the local GPs rather than having to travel to hospital. I then had radiotherapy rather than RC. Best wishes.
Thank you so much for sharing your journey with me I really appreciate it. Its just so reassuring talking to somebody who has experienced the real thing. I hope you are well and over the worst of everything, best wishes for the future and thank you again.
