Hi I am at almost the one year mark since first seeing blood in my urine. In May 2022 I had a polyp removed from my bladder - high grade pT1b with no breach of the muscle wall. One month later I had a second look operation and no cancer cells were found. In August I started a 6 week BCG regimen. In October a cystoscopy showed either small growths or inflammation. Yesterday I had another cystoscopy and 2 or more very small polyps were found. I am now scheduled for another operation in 6 weeks. For those who have been through similar; does this seem to be normal. I am worried that the BCG treatment did not work, also worried that polys appeared almost immediately. I expect I am awfulising but this is scary.
Hi Franck and welcome to the group. Sorry to hear you have had a recurrence, but we know it is common and some people seem more prone than others. The positive is we are checked regularly and these things can usually be dealt with early. In cases where there are only small spots, diathermy can be used. This is a laser treatment to zap things rather than a full resection. In cases where BCG does not appear to have been successful, some people are changed to Mitomycin which can work if BCG does not. This is a chemo treatment rather than immunotherapy but administered in the same way as BCG. So there are alternatives which your team will consider. I hope all goes well at your next op. Best wises.
