Hi, I am just looking for someone to talk too as my Mam has bladder cancer.
this has been going on over a year now, she had Chemotherapy last year & sometimes it made her really poorly & sometimes took into hospital.
Anyway had some Chemo like I said only to be told it had not gone but grown larger as well, it hasn’t moved anywhere else so that was good, but to put my Mam through all that for nothing!
They should have started on Chemo & Radiotherapy together straight away, like my Mam asked but No of course the doctor knew best NOT!
Anyway we have all gone through ups & downs & lots of emotions as well.
Mam has just started her new treatment last week 5th & the 6th then every day Monday to Friday for 4 weeks. Chemo once a week & the rest Radiotherapy.
this makes her so tired, but as I told her if there is anything to be done we will do it for her!
she is mostly worried about her hair as it is coming out really bad & she says it is really thin, which it upsetting to see & hear, because my Mam has Lovely long thick hair!
so if you have any advice please help, Thanks
Hi Badshaza05 and welcome to the group, although sorry to hear what your Mam has gone through. The positive is that she is now undergoing treatment. I had chemoradiotherapy and so know how it makes you feel. It leaves you tired and even sleep doesn't really help. Radiotherapy can cause dehydration so it is important Mam drinks plenty of water. Make sure she has a drink close to hand at all times and encourage her to keep drinking regularly. Some people recommend a touch of lemon barley water to make it more palatable. It is important to keep her strength up, but treatment makes it hard to eat. Better to have regular and often small meals and snacks rather than large meals. Chemo can cause mouth sores, so regular use of a good quality mouth wash can help prevent this. Light exercise such as walking can help if Mam is up to it. Radiotherapy can upset the bowels usually after treatment finishes, so again lots of water to help. I did not lose my hair, but we know less frequent washing helps and if washing is needed, then cool or even cold water helps as hot water opens the pores leading to heavier loss. I hope all goes well and feel free to ask anything here. Best wishes.
