Hi

I have just had confirmation i have been diagnosed with bladder cancer after biopsies following a Cystoscopy. I also discovered blood in my stools whilst waiting for biopsy results. My consultant has now requested a 2 week referal to the colorectal team for further investigations. Treatment has been postponed until this has been investigated. I am struggling with discussing how i feel and processing whats going on with family and friends as i am so far away from them and its difficult to have these conversations over the phone. Its taken 6 months to get to this point and concerned about what happens next. Im a 52 year old male and have had a catheter fitted for the whole of this time. I feel very alone at the moment.

  • Hi   and welcome to the group, although sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with bladder cancer. We know how stressful the early days of uncertainty and not knowing can be. Rectal bleeding is not usually associated with bc, so hopefully it may not be something serious and you can get on with your treatment. Good to know it is to be investigated. Lots of experience here to answer any questions as you go forward. It is difficult talking to other people in the early days, but once you break the ice with family and friends, things tend to be easier. Always someone here if you need to talk and we understand. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi purple21, I know how you feel. Everybody on this forum knows... don't feel alone: here you will find so many incredible and wonderful people. And you can always message us for anything. We are all in this together! Do let us know how things are going. And don't make the mistake I did of scaring myself googling... my preferred motto is a phrase I was told by a dear friend who had breat cancer: "trust your doctors and do as you are told"!
