Hi had a urine test with blood in ,waiting for an appointment with urologist, feeling very anxious about what to expect and overthinking everything ,so scared.
I had my first appointment with the urologist last Friday and a scope last Sunday morning - with a diagnosis of bladder cancer. Now like you - I wait. Although there is a strong possibility we will be on the same journey at the same time, I will not pretend to know what you are going through - we all have different circumstances and responsibilities to consider and may not all process things the same way. I am so sorry to hear you feel scared. That fear does not define you. You are so very brave! It took real guts to post your feelings on this forum. Facing our fears is not easy! Expressing your vulnerability on a public forum is a whole other of level of courage! You rock! You got this! You are not alone - even if it sometimes feels like. I will be routing for you - as will this whole community, I'm sure! Keep the faith. Sending you a virtual hug.
Thankyou so much for your reply my appointment is next week .I’m really nervous it’s all. I think about .I’m sending you a virtual hug to ,I’m not sure what else to say .x
Carolynbre AND AttitudeofGratitude. Hello and welcome you both to the group. Lots of experience here as many of us have been through it, so always someone to answer any questions. Best wishes
Hi Carolynbre,Welcome to this friendly group. The first test that usually happens is a cystoscopy.A small flexible tube with a light is put into the bladder so it can be looked at closely. It’s a quick procedure taking a few minutes. If anything untoward is seen then you will go back for another cystoscopy under a general anaesthetic. There is lots of advice and support here so we can help with any questions. We have all been in your position and understand the anxiety you are feeling.Best wishes Jane
Thankyou for your reply ,so is that the only procedure you have at your appointments
And do they give you results or you have to wait
My urologist explained everything he could see on the screen while he was doing the scope. He pointed out areas of concern and then showed me a bit of the bladder wall that had not thickened for comparison. I did ask for the explanation when he started the scope though. So I got the result there and then. He was very thorough and even then I was in and out the hospital in about 15 minutes.
Wow very quick did you have an ultrascan ?
Hi Carolynbre,At your urology appointment your urologist will discuss the next steps and any tests you will need. It’s usual to be called back in for the flexible cystoscopy. It varies on how much information you are given then.I had chronic bladder disease for 34 years before cancer so my urologists were used to pointing out red areas or ulcers to me.I was always interested to watch the cystoscopy and ask questions. When the cancer was found all my urologist said was this looks troubling and you need to come back in for a TURBT.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
