Hi ,after problems GP put down to age related enlarged prostate , I had noticeable blood in urine a few months ago, was given antibiotic and it cleared up ,not returned since, was still getting pain when urinating went back to GP , urine sample showed micro blood ,was sent for ultrasound for kidneys and told they wanted further investigation of bladder, radiographer also checked bladder, a week later got phone call of cancellation available for cystoscopy, had it done last week ,urologist mentioned warts and has ordered a ct scan for next week to be followed up by TURBT.

What could see on screen during cystoscopy looked like a cluster of white bubbles similar to bubble wrap, Im not stupid it’s obviously an abnormality that needs to be investigated and treated, but I’d like to ask has anyone had something similar and will I be given any indication of how serious when I get CT scan next week, I’m sure everyone will agree waiting in the dark is torture.

  • Hi and welcome to the group. We know what a worrying time the uncertainty and not knowing can be, but be assured, if it does turn out to be bladder cancer, then it can be treated successfully. Bladder tumours come in all different shapes and sizes and so the further tests are needed. The CT scan is standard just to rule out anything elsewhere and gives them a better picture of what they are dealing with. You will get told nothing on the day of the scan as the images go away to be analysed. The TURBT (trans urethral resection of bladder tumour) sounds a lot worse than it is. Any offending cells will be shaved away and sent for analysis. Usually done in day surgery but prepare for an overnight stay. Another wait for results unfortunately. When all the results are in they will come up with a plan for the next step whatever it turns out to be. Lots of us here have been through this so feel free to ask any questions. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hey Billy, you can be sure that almost everyone who is on this site has experienced something exactly like or very similar to yours. My experience was just like yours. I’ll be straight with you, the majority of abnormalities that are observed during a cystoscopy prove to be malignant tumours , benign ones tend to be rare. Having said that, most are discovered early and can be successfully dealt with. The vast majority of CT scans at diagnosis come back negative for metastatic spread. The turp you have scheduled will tell you the grade and give a pretty good indication of the stage. Unless turp #1 verifies that the invasion is definitively shallow , they should order a second turp to help establish the stage. The stage and to lesser extent the grade , will dictate how they proceed with suggested treatments. The surgeon performing the turps May give his opinion on the stage and grade post op , but only the pathology results which usually follow the ops by two weeks, will tell the true story. Good luck, chin up. Orillia.

  • Hi thank you for reply ,

Yeah I was aware that vast majority of abnormalities are cancerous tumours ,Im already resigned to having bladder cancer , my original post was to inquire of when you can expect to be given diagnosis and prognosis , you have pretty much answered what I was asking

    Thank you

    Billy.

  • Hi thank you for reply and information, if I think of anything else I’ll be sure to ask
