flexible scope this week

next week

Ct Scan

preop op

op week after

nurses reassuring non invasive why ct scan ! Do they suspect it originated else where !

How many cases can be done under Epidural or even local ?

surly if they’re aware it’s 1-2 cm they’ve seen the appearance they must have a pretty good idea of grade even without Biopsy!

I was under impression non invasive under 3cm grade can be pretty sure by shape eg mushroom shaped low grade

or flat velvet border aggressive ?

Anyone else similar experiences?

it’s a grim world

one trauma after another !!

thought of nhs hospital & the lack of hepa filters & ffp3 masks testing ONTOP puts the fear in you massively!!

very concerning times I’m actually very angry & sad I’ve been shouting ! Because it’s one trauma after another ! My family member already been through early stage bowel surgery in her 40s 4 major op

in a couple of years as when abscess burst & sepsis emergency surgery didn’t detect C so my poor mum had to go through 4 major traumatic surgeries at such a young age that was 20 years ago & it’s haunts me to this day ! Probably got PTSD & now this plus many other events thrown ONTOP life can be unbearable to cope with ! I’m out of my mind ! No amount of don’t worry will help only facts !!

im on my own ! My fathers here but I class myself as the numb one who should care for my mum !! I feel alone ! Not well myself with my mh due to this horrific pandemic knocking me off my feet ! I need to get help fast ! Step up & be there for my mum even though reality is I need help myself! Family first always

  • Hi and a welcome from me. The early days of not knowing and uncertainty can be very stressful and many  us know the feeling. The grade (G) can only be determined in a path lab under a microscope. It cannot be determined by just looking. Tumours come in all different shapes and forms and again biopsies are needed. The size is not as important as the staging (T) which is how advanced it is. Again, it is the biopsy which shows how advanced it is. When you have your follow up consultation, you should then be given the stage and grade, and the way forward. A CT scan is standard just to rule out anything else going on elsewhere and it also gives them more of a picture of what they are dealing with.  You seem to have had a lot going on recently, so I hope all goes well for you. Best wishes

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Blondie82,Only superficial biopsies can be taken using a local and these are painful.I had 6 taken this way in 2005.To diagnose cancer or any area that looks suspicious deeper more invasive biopsies are taken under a general anaesthetic. The bladder can be looked at more thoroughly under a GA They don’t use epidural’s that often for this procedure.Best wishes Jane

  • A thanks so much !

my mind is overflowing & I’m not coping at all !
Uncertainties plus severe anxiety don’t mix

wanting to be by my mums side with this severe covid phobia not doing as much as I’d do without it very infuriating!

petrified beyond words waiting to be honest !!

just when I thought things can’t get worse !

I never want sympathy I always need answers! I want the best for my mum & I want to look after her the best I can !

cannot distract anxiety too severe have to put up with it until results !! 3/4 weeks from now is like 10 years waiting !

  • That’s dreadful news ! As my mum gets very Ill with GAS Disappointed

  • The TURBT doesn’t take too long and your mum will be back recovering on the ward quickly. She may even be able to go home the same day but most likely will stay overnight. It sounds worse than it is.Most people don’t find them that bad.Jane

  • I’m sorry if I have worried you further I was just trying to answer your questions.

  • Just be sure to inform your Mum's doctors Blondie82, about the gas. Most general anaesthetics nowadays as far as i hear, are intravenous ones through a canula. Not gas. There are different intravenous ones, so even if she was to have a poor reaction to one used this time, it should be noted. This means if she needs another in future they will use a different one again.

For yourself, have you contacted your local Carers' Association? They do vary but may be able to offer you some telephone support. Also you can call the MacMillan helpine 0808 808 00 00 (7 days a week, 8am-8pm). There's also a Carers' Forum on here.

  • The risk of covid is horrific! My mum has worn a mask every time she’s been out for 2.5 years ! Imagine having a GA in a theatre unmasked ! Airborne virus & worse being put on a ward ! I do hope they allow her her ffp3 on the ward it’s a major concern for her & also bringing it back into the home to my father who’s more vulnerable to covid !

The effects of GA are horrific ! It my mum is sick she has very frightening I wouldn’t even class as a faint ! Far worse eyes open and stops breathing ! Not sure a Doctor has ever witnessed this but many nurses have ! They say she went funny funny turn !! Some have called it a faint ! I’ve seen & dealt with 100s of faints in my time never have a seen anything as scary to witness & this is a major concern !
my mother won’t pro-tray it this way she’ll say it’s a deep faint & they’ll think no further ! I on the other hand having witnessed it would be making much bigger point to the pre op staff & consultant !

  • Thanks I’ll likely call them ! However they can’t give me answers & are bound by litigation & very diplomatic! I doubt I’ll get the info I need to hear ! With all respect to these nurses I understand their scope of practice! Especially on a online forum !

  • When your mum goes for the pre op assessment she can mention any previous reactions. They might be able to do an epidural instead. It’s usual to meet the anaesthetist before the TURBT.
