Hello all, I was recently told that my CT scan showed an 8mm nodule on the left side of my bladder wall that projects into the lumen. My primary sent an urgent referral to a urologist, so now I play the waiting game of hearing from them. I am really freaking out about possibly having bladder cancer, seeing as I am only 34. Anyone have some insight into this, could it possibly be something else? My primary doctor sounded like she was telling me I was dying when she broke the news.
Hi Cillysmommy, just to say welcome to the group, it' a super one. Please try not to panic too much just yet as very many bladder cancers are very treatable. It is young to get it true but is happening to more and more people. If you're female you can really count yourself fortunate if you have not endured months or years of being fobbed off 'oh it's gynae', 'oh it's just an infection' etc.
Likely expect a TURBT [trans urethral resection of bladder tumour] with or without chemo [Mitomycin or other] 'washout' Then a wait while the lab processes the removed matter to analyse what cells are there, and a muti-disciplinary team [MDT] meets to discuss what treatment/s are suitable to offer you. Meantime try to keep busy and away from Google. You are in the right place for answers, though I don't have directly relevant ones as my OH is over twice your age.
Regards,
Denby
Hi Cillysmommy. The only sure way to diagnosed a bladder cancer is looking, i.e. cystoscopy. But I wouldn't worry too much: i had a 3cm growth. I had the TURBT (Trans Urethral Resection of a Bladder Tumor). That came out as grade 3 (aggressive) but type T1a, i.e. non invasive. Result: turbt, BCG treatment and hopefully the all clear will continue... it gas been fit 1 year now... so 8mm may be even less worrying and that's if it is cancer...
Good luck! Try not to worry too much!!
