Hi, I am a 68yr old male, and it has been a whirlwind of emotions over the past 3 months. Blood in urine, went for CT scan and been told it was cancer.
Been admitted to hospital 5 wks ago, bladder and prostrate removed and I now have a stoma bag. Managing well with the bag but its the pain. Is it normal to have pain?
Welcome to the group. What a lot in a few months for you. Five weeks is very early days in the recovery process. What sort of pain do you have? It is normal to have all sorts of aches, twinges & pain in this time, but should not be unbearable. Sometimes there is nerve damage which causes pain, otherwise it can be scar tissue, muscles re-activating & so on. Are you managing to eat Ok & keep up regular walking?
I had RC & neo, but plenty of folk with stoma here too. Hope things improve soon.
Hi Wee Man,Welcome to the group. It’s still very early days in your recovery so some aches and pains are to be expected. If you are in severe pain then you need to get medical advice/help.Your body will still be healing. It is major surgery and recovery takes time. It’s important to listen to your body.If you feel tired then you need to rest. It’s common to feel tired and weak at the beginning.Eat little but often, keep hydrated and keep mobile but don’t overdo it.At this stage I could just about walk slowly up and back to a nearby post box.I built up the walking distance over time and was given the good advice here to take much smaller steps.I hope the pain lessens soon. There is lots of advice on here as several of us have been through bladder removal.Best wishes Jane
