Hello, I am new here and wonder if anyone had to make a decision whether to have adjuvant chemotherapy or not. I had my left kidney and ureter removed in August and now am facing this decision, which I am finding so very hard. I am 71 and have atrial fibrilation to complicate things. It would be great to hear from someone in same or similar boat. Thank you
Hi Amina and welcome to the group. I had a different treatment to you, but I did have six weeks of intravenous chemo (Gem/Cis). I didn't find it too bad but know others have had reactions to it. Designed to mop up any rogue cells floating around in the body. I didn't have any other medical complications so you may need to discuss it with your team to ask about the pros and cons. Best wishes.
Thank you so much for your reply, am glad you went ok with the chemo.
Were you told you needed this treatment or was the decision put on you too?
For me, besides the 50:50 chance of a positive outcome , I am finding it hard to see any other pros. Were you been given any percentages or prognoses ?
Thank you again and al the very best to you
My situation was different to yours. I had the chemo prior to going on to radiotherapy (neoadjuvant) in order to try and shrink my tumour. The same regimen of chemo is usually the same though. Best wishes
