Hello, I just wanted to know someone who has experience in looking after a partner who has just been diagnosed with stage 3 bladder cancer.

he is going to have a pet scan tomorrow to determine the best way forward, either removal of the bladder or chemo or radiotherapy if it has progressed from the bladder.

  • Hello and welcome to the group, although sorry to hear of your partner's diagnosis. The Pet scan will give them a clearer picture of what they are dealing with and the way forward. We know how waiting for results can be a worrying time. I went the chemoradiation route while others have gone the cystectomy way. Lots of experience here, so always someone with an answer. Please feel free to ask questions or just talk. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Thank you Rily, I really feel helpless at the moment, he was not well yesterday, shaking uncontrollably, I know he has another water infection and started another course of antibiotics but this shaking came on so quickly I don’t know if it was a reaction to the new tablets or some sort of shock of the reality of his situation.

iv got him to stay in bed today as we have a 1.1/2 drive to the hospital tomorrow.

  • Hi Trazel,Welcome to this friendly supportive group.I’m sorry that you find yourself here though. There is plenty of advice here and a wide range of experience.Several of us have had bladder removal. The waiting around for results is never easy.People tend to feel better once they have a treatment plan in place. We are all here to help and listen.Best wishes Jane

  • Hi Trazel, my husband was diagnosed with stage 3 non invasive bladder cancer this summer. He had a TURBT in June where they removed the growth and another in early August when they took random biopsies which were negative. He is now having BCG immunotherapy, we are 3 weeks into the 6 week treatment, so far all has gone ok. Nobody has mentioned having the bladder removed, fingers crossed all goes well.

  • Good afternoon Ma Baker, how are you today?  I followed a similar route to your partner and early in the BCG treatment I had the same symptoms, uncontrollable shivering and this was due to a bladder infection. A course of antibiotics cleared things up in a few days and I’ve now had 15 BCG without any similar reaction or problem, kind regards, J.

  • I’m fine thank you WallyB, I’ve been out in the garden today tidying up, it’s a lovely place to not think about things, although sad that I had to pull my courgettes up! My husband is ok, main problem is to keep wanting to urinate and a stinging in his penis, but as he’s drinking quite a bit of lemon barley and squeezed lemon and cranberry (which the nurse suggested) plus all the “poking about” in his penis he’s had it’s understandable, I don’t think he has an infection but keeping an eye on it.
