Hi I've bee recently diagnosed with stage1 grade 3 high highly aggressive bladder cancer already had first TURBT due in for second then doctor was unsure wether to start BCG or RC he as opted for BCG as I'm only 55 this is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster as I'm the youngest and last member of my family who all passed away early due to different cancers I'm also sole trader self employed and work by myself and this is also causing concern any advice would be appreciated thank you
Hi willow1 and welcome to the group. Good to know you have had your TURBT procedure. A follow up is usually a lot less severe than the first . Just checking to make sure they have missed nothing. Not had BCG myself, but many here have and I am sure they will be along to share experiences. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.
I am also self employed. Depending on the effect on your work, you might want to apply for Universal Credit. I produce my accounts for them every month & if under the threshold, I get some top up money, if over, I get nothing. It does depend on if you have a partner who works.
Welcome. I was 56 when diagnosed, with TaG3. The choice re BCG or RC should be yours, rather than the doctor's, though of course you might welcome their opinion. Be sure to ask the pros & cons, risks & side effects of each option so that you know what you are facing & can make an informed decision. We all have different priorities & personal circumstances that lead us to choose a particular path. Hope the second TURBT goes well - usually much easier than the first one.
Hello Willow3, I was diagnosed with Stage1 Grade 1 in 2918. I had several TURBT over a 3 year period. The follow up ones are definitely easier than the first.. During 2921 I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Grade 3 aggressive cancer so the options of BCG or RC were discussed with me. My consultant at that time felt it was worth trying BCG first. During the follow up TURBT I was found to have CIS so I have now opted to go for RC with Neo bladder reconstruction. This is taking place on 30th May. Good luck with your treatment, I will keep you posted on my progress.
