I have a question if someone could advise. After a bladder removal, will I have to go into intensive care? I was just reading up on it & trying to get myself a bit of information about it before hand. I'm not too keen on that aspect of it, but maybe I've read the wrong information? Don't want to worry if I don't need to. Many thanks x
Hi Rachel,They take you to intensive care or high dependency because it’s a big operation. You will be given plenty of pain relief and once you are stable you will be transferred to a ward.I was in overnight and was on a ward by the following afternoon. You will probably be too tired from the anaesthetic and the medication to get too stressed.Love Jane x
Rachel,I expect you will get an appointment to talk about the operation beforehand.I had things explained then and could ask questions.I was also given special fortified drinks to take home before the operation. At the pre op appointment I talked to an anaesthetist and a pharmacist as well as having all the usual pre op tests.I had a lot of information from people in this group that helped.Love Jane x
Hi Rachel
I was the same as Jane-given the drinks before my surgery as part of the hospital’s “enhanced recovery programme”. I had small bottles of a fruity flavoured drink to take. Best to have them chilled-I found them very sweet but not unpleasant. I’m guessing they are full of good things and help you have the right vitamins or whatever to aid recovery. I think I had 6 in total and was told the specific times I should drink them before my op.

Also, I was in the high dependency unit for 2 nights, but I did have a bigger surgery. It’s standard procedure after major surgery so they can keep you closely monitored.

They are high energy drinks that contain vitamins and minerals. They help when you can’t eat properly as they contain the nutrients you need. The ones I had were Fortisip and Fortijuice. The juice is not as thick. They come in different flavours Strawberry,Chocolate,Vanilla etc.Jane x
