My duagnosis

So, I've had my results today, unfortunately I have cancer & the doctors want to remove my bladder. It's been a real shock & frankly I can't stop shaking.

If they thought there was no hope they wouldn't be putting me through surgery like this surely? I seriously need some positivity right now, I'm feeling so bleak! X

  • I'm sorry to hear you have had that news, all of us that have been through this know the shock you are feeling. Have they given you a stage & grade for your tumour? Plenty of us here have been through surgery & are living full lives, so I am sure you will manage too, if that is the outcome. Do you have family & friends to help support you? Certainly we will do what we can here, but you might benefit from a local cancer support service, if there is one. Important to try & take care of yourself, with good diet, sleep & exercise. Best wishes.

  • Hi Rachel

Hope some of the more experienced posters will respond to your post. I'm new to all of this as well and got the same news today that bladder removal is being recommended. The doctors do consider everything from the individuals circumstances so they would be thinking this is the best option. There is certainly a lot to take in but a lot of members of this forum seem to have come through this

  • I didn't have my scan cos I was scared, so it's been re scheduled so I don't know ow where I'm at, but they are recommending a full bladder removal, so I'm assuming it's quite advanced x

  • Hi Rachel

Try not to panic...we are all here for you. Try to have the scan as soon as you can , it will give you more control. Because they are suggesting RC do not assume worst case! If it was that bad you would be in hospital having the op by now. No matter what stage etc there are alternative treatments which you should explore. Whilst you wait for the scan/results why not speak to them and see what they think the stage / grade may be...as much as you may not wish to know...it really will give you a sense of having more control. You got this and make sure you keep us up to date!

  • Thank you, I've been speaking the the helpline who have reassured me & made me feel so much better about the situation.

Bit worried about the bladder removal as it's major surgery, but by the same token, I'm so glad I've been given some options.

I thank the good lord above for this group & the support line, without all you guys I wouldn't have coped x

  • I really hope it all works out well for you, I really do. Sending hugs x

  • Sorry to ask, but what's rc? I'm new to all this x

  • Hi Rachel72, rc or RC just means Radical Cystectomy which means bladder removal.

[Cyst=bladder in this bit of medical Greek, ect=out, -tomy means cutting in medical Greek. We have medical Greek because Latin used to be the common language of science across Europe and the Romans being big admirers of the ancient Greeks used a lot of the Greek language]. Now you know!

Sorry us oldies-on-the-forum tend to use abbreviations to save on typing effort. Maybe we should ask MacMillan to give us a space on the page for the standard ones for each cancer?

    Best wishes,
