Hello everyone this is my first time posting. Cancer is so overwhelming I wanted to chat with other people who are going through a similar experience
Hello and welcome to the group. We know how overwhelming a cancer diagnosis can be and we understand. Many of us have been through it. Bladder cancer can be treated successfully and the earlier it is caught the better. Lots of support here for you. If you would like to post where you are up to at the moment, we can share experiences. Best wishes.

hello Riley
thank you I had a small amount of bleeding and a lot of bladder inconsistencies and was referred for a cystoscopy.
the shock of being told there and then you have cancer was such a shock not helped by being alone and not expecting it.
after ct scan thank goodness it hasn’t spread. Was told it was just a superficial tumour and booked in for a TURBT that was 3.5 weeks ago the biopsy came back as G3 pR1 and I am now awaiting a second TURBT and BCG treatment. I have to say the biopsy results were a shock because the word superficial indicates it’s not serious.
I do have a question for you lovely people. After my TURBT I was feeling well then 2 weeks to the day I got a UTI the pain was unbelievable. Very strong antibiotics cleared all signs of infection but I am still in pain not agony but constantly uncomfortable and I can’t seem to get rid of it plus I have completely lost my appetite. Not something a foodie chef like me is used to. Is the pain normal after TURBT and how do people cope with not wanting food. Thank you
Hi again . G3pT1 is very early stage which is encouraging. Second TURBTs are normal and usually just a mopping up exercise to check they have missed nothing. Also a lot less severe than the first. Although G3 is the most aggressive, it is also the most common. Infections can occur after TURBTs and good to know you have had medication. After about 2 weeks the scab starts to break away from the wound and you may notice some blood or clots. This is part of the healing process. It is important to drink water regularly to keep things flushed out. If you are concerned, then always best to call your CNS if you have one, if not the urology dept. Best wishes.
Hi Cakefairy, I am sorry the medics did not bother to explain their terms to you. 'Superficial' about bc means 'on the surface' which is good news as it is the opposite of 'muscle invasive'. In other words it's talking about where the cancer is whereas the G3 is about the type of cells they found.
As regards pain, my old GP told me to drink a whole bottle of Robinson's Lemon Barley Water properly diluted over 24 hours to get rid of an early UTI. Many others on here find it helpful drinking this. Especially after TURBTs or cystoscopies.
Appetite may be related to adequate zinc intake. Also any time I have to have antibiotics I always take some gut friendly bacteria capsules afterwards to put right the damage antibiotics tend to do to the 'good bugs' in the gut. On here it is not allowed to say anything that could be taken for medical advice, do always check with a good pharmacist or your medical team before taking any over-the-counter supplements etc
Hope you feel better soon,
Denby
Hi.
I had my TURBT in April and I still have a dull ache in my bladder if I do not empty it every hour, any more than an hour and it will ache for the rest of the day.
I was advised to drink cranberry juice as it can help a sensitive bladder. I do not drink anywhere near as much cranberry juice as I should because its so bitter... ha ha but I do drink lots of water and have found the pain is less since cutting out caffeine.
Sending love to all
Clare
Hi Clare, some people find other things irritant as well as caffeine, eg onions or tomatoes, or various citrus fruits. You can get cranberry tablets which are easier to get down [and carry home!] than juice. Also many brands of juice have lots of sugar in which is counter productive as it can feed bugs. Or sweetener which may be not-ideal chemicals.
Try asking a pharmacist,
best,
Denby
When I had Interstitial cystitis lots of foods and drinks caused pain.Tomatoes, onions, anything spicy, citrus and cranberry juice was too acidic.Pear juice was the most soothing drink I could manage then.Cranberries are good for preventing infections but they are agony if you have a bladder full of ulcers.Love Jane
Hi Denby
I've been drinking the sugar free cranberry juice, it's vile.... but I force myself. I could try a supplement but I am taking so many already I was trying to avoid it.
The specialist nurse team finally called back yesterday and I'm having another bladder scan on Tuesday to see if I am still retaining and start me on self catherisation if i am. if I am still retaining that would explain the ache I have.
I have my OH assessment on 29th so really hope they sort something because the last thing I need right now is a change of job. X
Thanks for the advice
Love to all
Clare
