Recently diagnosed and have TURBT 22 Sep feeling anxious

  • Hi mick.

I am 46 and  was diagnosed in March. Had a 3cm papillary tumour to the left of the urethra.

Had my TURBT and mitomycin in April, I didn't have a general anesthetic I had a spinal. I drank lots after the procedure and was allowed home quite quickly. My cancer was graded as grade 2.

Just had my follow-up Cystoscopy and it was all clear.

Been having trouble emptying my bladder since the TURBT (I am retaining) but in the grande scheme I'm pleased the cancer hasnt returned. Grinning

    Sending love to all

    Clare

Hi Mick, Being diagnosed with cancer is a shock to the system, we've all been there, so feel free to share whatever anxiety you have. If you're worried about the TURBT itself.. I've had 5 so far and would have another in the blink of an eye. Pain in the bladder afterwards, mainly while urinating, for a few days which you can medicate with pain relief like codeine, on & off bleeding for about 2 weeks as the site scabs and heals, and general fatique from the op and from stress. But it's all very doable. I stayed overnight in the hospital with a catheter for my first 3 TURBTs (you're not allowed home until your urine is clear and has no blood and I bled quite a bit), and the last 2 I went home the same day. In fact, probably the worst of it, for me at least, is having a catheter in overnight, unnaturally uncomfortable. After that you will start your treatment plan, for lots of people that means medication being installed into your bladder. But it all depends on the biopsy results from the TURBT when you'll be told what grade you have etc. Hang in there.

  • Thank you for your advice appreciated.

  • Hi Mick

I am a scaredy cat when it comes to medical things but here I am still kicking. Remember to take it easy and drink plenty of water
