Hi,
I'm new here, I was diagnosed with bladder cancer four weeks ago. I'm 38 years old, healthy, so it came as a huge shock. I have my TURBT on Friday with a dose of chemo to the bladder. I feel like it actually only really sunk in post surgery, I'm struggling to accept and understand what's happened/happening to me. Macmillan is the only place I know to turn to for answers.
Hope you're all doing OK x
Hi and welcome to the group, although I am sure this is the last place you would have thought you would be. You are young to have BC, but we are seeing more and more younger people with this. We know what a shock a cancer diagnosis can be, but bladder cancer can be treated successfully and many of us here have been through it. The chemo drug they put in your bladder is usually Mitomycin. This is to deal with any rogue cells left floating around. At your TURBT they take biopsies which are sent off for analysis and determine the stage and grade of any tumours. The results then determine the next step and it is always an anxious time waiting for results. You may be called for a CT scan, but don't worry too much about that, it is usually precautionary to rule anything else out and give them a better picture of what they are dealing with. Lots of experience here to call on, so any questions, no matter how trivial they may seem, please ask. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.
